History of Piedmont OK
Mr. James Dean farmed the land for 10 years and upon his death the land was bought by Mr. Long who took a portion of land to develop a town site. People came from all around to settle this great small town with the rolling hills and by 1910 there was a population of 255 residents! Most towns that were established around a railroad depot would grow to enormous sizes.
Even though the St. Louis-El Reno-Western Railroad laid its mark in 1904, the town sold lots around the railroad but still managed to remain a small town. Piedmont added some major growth during the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s. As part of the Canadian County, Piedmont was high on the list for oil exploration and rigs sprang up in town. Shown in the statistics in the 70’s, Piedmont was also well established in agriculture and livestock. Into the 80’s the town grew and a steady pace and the construction of State Highway 4 at the center of town brought more developers interested in the city.
