Welcome to Midwest City Oklahoma. Midwest City has well established neighborhoods and new communities throughout. Most of the latest growth is east of I-35 and is on its way to being one of the hottest towns around. Oklahoma City is only 10 miles west of Midwest City and an easy commute. The population as of July, 2007 was upwards of 55,000 residents. It is located in Oklahoma County.
A little history of Midwest City – It was founded in 1942 by a well-known businessman and builder in the state. The name itself was also once the name of the Tinker AFB and so the town grew up with the same name. It wasn’t until later on that the AFB decided to change the name to Tinker after a Native-American General killed in World War II. To help the growing need for housing, neighborhoods were built fast and affordable for the teams of military men being stationed at the base. Roads were built, schools were constructed and areas of civic and commercial sites were popping up.
As in 1951 when the town was awarded America’s Model City, Midwest City is today designated with such honors as Tree City USA and Certified City. Midwest City is 25 square miles and is at the southern most boundaries next to Tinker Air Force Base. There are four gates that lead directly onto the base from Midwest City.

Midwest City is served by the Mid-Del School System with a district of approximately 14,000 students from Midwest City, Forest Park, part of Oklahoma City and Del City. The district has one of the highest pay scales for teachers in the state. Mid Del also serves children living on the nearby Base.
The district has 3 high schools, 5 middle schools and 17 elementary schools which are pre-K thru 5th grade, 1 Academic Center and 3 Technology Center Locations.
